Melodic battle break for turntable musicians.

Clocktaves.

A 'Clocktave' is a note scale to scratch with, ranging from 1 to 4 octaves. The notes of the octaves are divided between exactly ONE rotation of a record so when you look at the record as if it were a clock, the root note of the scale will always appear at, let's say 12 o'clock, depending on where you have you orientation sticker or marker.

Once you get the hang of it, you'll know exactly what notes to play (scratch) because of the 'root-note orientation point' and you'll learn different note combos (melodies). Great for organ solos, piano solos, basslines, or just simple hooks. Practice by playing melodies you know, for example 'So Fresh And So Clean' by Outkast. After that, try improvising. The better your record control and musical hearing, the easier the melodies will come out.

IMPORTANT! : For best use of the clocktaves, you'll have to TUNE the rootnote of the clocktave to the rootnote of the music that's on your other turntable, or the music thats being played by the musicians around you. Hint: the rootnote of a clocktave can always be found at the end of a scale, it's the last note. Find it, tune it, memorize it. This will be the first and only time you'll need the pitch control with a clocktave.
