Notes

Despite ultimately being a standalone album, surprisingly few of the tracks on Electric Pretty Disco Palace were actually recorded for the project itself. Many of the tracks were unused cuts from prior albums, and a good selection of them were originally recorded for an unreleased Bachelor project to be titled The Wanting and the Fear, production on which was stalled in 2014 due to a computer crash which caused Bachelor massive data loss and effectively ended once work started on International at the end of that year. The Wanting and the Fear project was revived briefly in mid 2015 with an early 2016 release in mind, however it was just as quickly scrapped for good due to Bachelor's feeling that the project "lacked vitality." Bachelor moved on to a period of experimentation often involving long, instrumental synth jams that would ultimately culminate in the creation of Electric Pretty Disco Palace. In fact, the album is largely prior work; most of the tracks specifically written and recorded for Electric Pretty Disco Palace did not make the final cut of the album.

The opening track, "Electro," started as a simple jam to test a recently acquired Novation Mininova. The lyrics were based off a pre-Bachelor track from 2009 which was originally titled "Just Go Down." The song was rewritten somewhat to reference the album title, which had already been chosen before the song was recorded. The song makes heavy use of the aforementioned Mininova, supplemented by a Yamaha PSR-6 and featuring a simple beat played on a Mattel Synsonics electronic drumset.

"Time," recorded in mid-to-late 2014 for The Wanting and the Fear, was to be that album's opening track. The version heard on Electric Pretty Disco Palace is largely untouched from the original mix.

"Cool" was one of the first songs written in 2013 for what was to become Victory Cry (and thus one of the tracks responsible for halting production of the never-finished album, The Beach). The full backing track and guide vocals were recorded around this time, however it was decided that there were enough electronic dance songs for that project and so the song was shelved. The backing track was slightly updated and the vocals were re-recorded in 2014 during The Wanting and the Fear sessions. The track was announced as the first single from The Wanting and the Fear, but was cancelled shortly thereafter along with the album. It would eventually be the third track and second single from Electric Pretty Disco Palace.

"ディスコダンス," Japanese for "Disco Dancing," is one of the tracks specifically recorded with Electric Pretty Disco Palace in mind. It heavily features the Yamaha PSR-6 and is largely driven by that keyboard's preset disco beat, filtered through a flange pedal. The song is supplemented by percussion from the Yamaha DD-20 digital drumset, which was sent through a Digitech guitar pedal during the percussive breaks. Later, overdubs from the Novation Mininova were added. The vocals were produced using a generic Japanese language text-to-speech generator and processed to sound like those of a young woman. While this was one of the earliest tracks conceived for Electric Pretty Disco Palace, it was also the last to be finished; mixing continued up until the day of the album's release.

The music for "Ghost" was written and recorded in 2013 for Victory Cry, but the track was shelved before lyrics could be written for it. The song was revisited again in 2015, with the backing track remixed and partial lyrics written, but left unfinished until early 2016 when the lyrics were finally finished and recorded specifically for Electric Pretty Disco Palace.

"Departments" was originally a pre-Bachelor track for a project called BXT. An homage to the popular British television series, Are You Being Served?, Departments was originally a standard house track. An entirely new version, recorded near the end of sessions for Electric Pretty Disco Palace to flesh out the final tracklist, was decidedly more disco flavored to better fit the theme of the album. The vocals were created using a simple text-to-speech generator and processed to sound female.

The music for "Wir Sind Alle Schoen" was originally recorded in early 2015, around the time of International and shortly after Bachelor's acquisition of the Yamaha PSR-6 with the intention of testing the instrument. This version of the track ultimately served as a demo for the version recorded for The Wanting and the Fear. However, when the song was selected for Electric Pretty Disco Palace, the original backing track was used with the best guide vocal takes.

"Dark Disco" is another track from The Wanting and the Fear sessions and is presented on Electric Pretty Disco Palace in its original form.

"Symphony Brésilien," a tribute to the people of Brazil, is an instrumental and another track recorded specifically for Electric Pretty Disco Palace. The track features a simple arpeggiation produced on the Mininova over a layered samba beat which was created by running the Yamaha DD-20 through various effects.

"Stop. Right. There." is another track that predates Bachelor. Originally written and recorded in 2008, the song was re-recorded in its entirety in early 2016 for Electric Pretty Disco Palace and was released as its lead single.
